Marilyn Monroe

Dr. Michael Gurdin's files, 1950–62; auctioned 2013

Reported1950–62 / 20133 sources

Reported: a named outlet reported it; the person has not confirmed. Research label: Historical (physician's records).

What is on record

Gurdin's notes record a bovine-cartilage chin implant (1950) later dissolving; a 1962 facial X-ray after a fall shows "a small fracture on her nose." E! reports the records "back up claims that Marilyn had a slight rhinoplasty early in her career". The notes themselves as reported describe chin work; the nose-tip procedure claim is secondary. Julien's Auctions, Beverly Hills, Nov 9–10 2013; sold for $26,500 (search snippet).

As printed

"a facial X-ray shows she also had a small fracture on her nose, which backs up claims that Marilyn had a slight rhinoplasty early in her career." (E! News, 2013-10-10)

In surgeon's terms

The procedure the record names

Pages on this site that explain the operation named above, written from the primary literature. They describe the procedure, not this person's surgery, which no surgeon of record has published.

  • The deviated nose

A deviated nose is one whose axis leaves the midline of the face, at the bones, at the middle third, at the tip, or at all three.

  • Saddle nose deformity

A saddle nose is a bridge that has lost height in the middle, so the profile dips between the radix and the tip the way a saddle dips between its pommel and cantle.

  • Tip rotation and projection

Rotation is the angle the tip sits at, projection is how far the tip stands out from the face.

  • Tip support

Tip support is what stops the tip sinking back once the operation is over.
